3rd brake light
Hi I was wondering how I culd hook up a 3rd brake light. I wuld tap it to the brake\blinker wire 2 the tailights but I don't want it 2 blink. any info will b greatly appreciated
Its easy. Just mount your light, and run the wires down to the taillight of your choice. Follow the wiring harness down to the bulb and you will see there is most likely 3 wires going to it. Grab your meter or test light and probe the connections while the blinker and brake are held on by another person. When you probe the 3 wires, one wont light up, one will blink, and one will just go on. You want to tap your new light into the one that doesnt work and the one that stays on. Done! Where you choose to tap into the wire is your choice, I would chase it back up to a better spot up the harness once I know what color the wires are from looking at the bulb, somewhere inside the cabin of the truck would be best, just not outside behind the taillight.
Ok so I jus tested it there's a yellow wire brown wire and black wire. The black wire is ground (of course) the brown wire by me testin it is the actual tail light so wen the lights r on and the yellow wire wen I have the brake pedal depressed and the left blinker (I tested the left side) its voltage fluctuates. Wen I turn the blinker off with the brake still on it has 13.14v which means that the blinker and brake light are on the same wire n if I tap n2 it my 3rd brake light will blink with the light and wen im on the brakes with theblonker on it will only blink
So I decided to grab my trusty repair manual and looked 4 a wiring diagram. So I found out that that yellow wire is both the brake and signal wire so I traced it back and found all I need 2 tap in2 is the white wire which is the output wire on the brake switch. I tested it and it should work fine just fine so when I actually hook it up I'll post my results and possibly a picture and show what im going to do
