I want to start out by saying I know this has been discussed many times on the forum as I have searched and found a lot of helpful information. My problem is in two wheel drive vacuum is being applied to the actuator. In 4hi and 4lo it is not. My question is could the vacuum lines be hooked up wrong on the t-case? Or is this a likely symptom of the vacuum switch being bad on the t-case? When in 4hi the front drive shaft will not turn, in 2hi it will not turn unless I disconnect vacuum from the actuator, then it turns freely. If anyone has any ideas or any help it is much appreciated. I am in no rush to get it fixed since I live in Las Vegas where we do not get much bad weather. Thank you in advance for any help you may give.

 

is this a new issue, or did you just buy the truck and found this problem?

it could be that the switch is not plumbed correctly, or the vaqcuum switch is bad (on the t-case).

i had an issue on one of my 1st gen's with a leaky switch. fluid was getting into the vacuum lines, and was causing all kinds of wierd vacuum issues with the front diff.

 

It is possible to hook the switch wrong only you really have to work at it. Some dumbass hooked mune up wrong on my 84 Jimmy and it did what yours is doing.

 

I have had the truck for a little over a year now. I never really took a look at the 4x4. I have used the 4x4 but never really noticed anything wrong until I was reading through some posts on here. I had my hood open the other day and noticed the actuator was getting vacuum in 2hi. Is it fairly easy to change the switch out? I can see where it is at on the t-case but there is not too much room up there.

 

Hey there. Just wanted to let you know I got up under there and looked. The notch was not lines up on the vacuum connector. I put it right and now get vacuum in 4hi and 4lo and not 2hi. Thank you for your input old skool and gimpy.

 

glad to see it was nothing more than an "oops! put that back together wrong".

imagine what a shop might have charged you for that!
