Default '89 4.3 ltr S10 Blazer problem

Hey everybody, name's Kevin. This is my first post here. Recently, I've been having a problem with my blazer where when I start it up it will sputter then cut off, or other times I will get it running and when I begin to come to a stop the engine will die on me. To me it sounds like it might be a fueling problem, but I don't know a heck of a lot about these things. So does anyone have any idea what the problem might be? Thanks in advance for any replies!

Could be a faulty Idle Air Control (IAC), especially if it does it with the car cold or warmed up. Could also be a leaking egr valve. The egr should be closed when the engine is cold and also when at idle. If it is leaking by it will cause rough idle and maybe even stalling.

Sounds like you may have a stuck EGR valve. When was the last time the engine was tuned up (spark plugs, cap, rotor, and wires)?

If you had any of those problems, wouldn't a check engine light come on??

EGR if it is leaking will not through a code, If the EGR Solenoid fails or does not respond to the ECM it will through a code. Same with the IAC if it is responding to the ECM it will not through a code but could still be faulty. Not all faults create codes.

good to know... when mine was reading the EGR code, i changed the "valve", and the code went away, i believe it was not opening all the way. was this triggering the "solenoid" as faulty because it couldn't open/close it? changing this did help in start up/idle and it quit stalling when it was cold, but im still having problems with acceleration (mis-fire/back-fire) occasionally.
