I noticed coolant burning the other day and now right when I got home my truck started leaking coolant from the underside of the engine on the drivers side of the engine bay. It's getting dark here and it's snowing and all I can see is that it is leaking somewhere above the transfer case which is on the driver side of the engine bay. I see there are 2 coolant lines running under the engine from the radiator right by the battery. I am wondering what they run to and if that might be my problem. Otherwise did I maybe blow my head gasket? If someone knows if there is a freez plug in that area or a line that could leak let me know. My oil is also clean.

 

You say it started burning coolant, and now it leaks onto the ground. You should check for an intake leak. Grab a flashlight and look down by the distributors base for a puddle. If you see coolant there its from the intake leaking. The coolant doesnt have a crossover through the intake on the backside, so it gets this build up of crud that eats away the gasket which you will see when you take it apart... if there is a puddle there. Its not too bad of a job to do yourself. Need a tourqe wrench in/lb to tighten it back down after. Takes about 3-6 hours depending on your ability and speed. You will wanna flush that system out with CLR first though. And it makes a real mess of your garage floor.

 

I just replaced my spider injector recently and torqued everything down but I will check to be sure. It was smoking pretty bad and I though my truck was on fire. Seemed like the coolant was comming from under the drivers side exhaust.

 

So I found the leak but I have no idea what it is called. There is an orange plug that is under the exhaust on the drivers side that has a long cord comming out of it that goes to somewhere. It's an orange and blue/gray plug that the coolant is leaking from, is that a freez plug? I think it's something else but I have no idea what it is called to get a replacement.

 

sounds like a block heater you can just replace it with a freeze plug .

Now that I think about it that is totally what it is, block heater plug. It looks like you just turn it in there and it's held in by pressure, it's not threaded. Or is it? Also if I just got a freeze plug I would just put some sealant on there and tap it in right?

 

Disreguard my last post, the heater plug in there was lose so I tightened it down, which is next to impossible to do, and the leak has stoped for now. All I can say is that I hate the heater plug now especially since I nevered used it and then it starts leaking.

 

Lucked out there! Gotta use it for half the year if you park outside where I live.
