Default Changed Spider..set timing..new knock :(

As the title states, I recently changed my failed spider assembly, put it back together and set the timing. I went the wrong way with the distributor and the engine started knocking (detonation?) and idling bad. Went the other way and set timing to "0" (with little brown wire unplugged). Now it still has a knock Did I screw something up setting the timing in the wrong direction? Anyone ever had it knock after replacing their Spider? I'm just hoping its not a rod or a bearing.

Thanks.

Why did you mess with the timing after doing the spider? That should have been left alone.
I replaced my spider and did not have a knock after, if it did not knock before, it should not have after, I am guessing its because you messed with the timing.

I borrowed a timing light that had adjustable advance timing and I didn't know it. Rookie mistake. After I set the light back to 0 adavance, I dialed my Blazer back in. I had it pretty far out in the process to where it was knocking and idling awful, but I got it back to zero and the idle smoothed out....but it now had a knocking noise it didn't have before. Should I try to fine tune the timing some more, or did it get the timing so far out I damaged something?

You can fine tune it a bit more and see. I never had to mess with the timing on these before.

If you ever do the spider again, dont touch the timing.
I hope you figure this out, I am sure someone will come in and know more about timing on these things

I got it off EBay. Buy AC Delco. I stayed away from the re manufactured ones and the off brands because of some of the scary stories on here. Always had good luck.

I've got my problem narrowed down to a vacuum leak, gotta love 4.3's

Hope this helps.
