Perhaps. I think I've heard of people being able to get the axle shaft out without removing the ball joints from the steering knuckle but I've never been able to do it. But once you've gotten that far into it, you've already taken off the brakes and maybe the hub. Doing the rest is not so bad.

Default CV joint boots inner

thanks Christine
I took a look and maybe possible on left side removing the lower shock absober screw only , I I believe better than removing knuckle. I will try before remove suspension . the car was abandoned on a farm during 15 years and there are mud , soil , include rats ****. I am greasing all before removing ...I check the original boot size and one from Volkswagen T4 is equivalent size .

thanks from Spain

Hi all
It is possible only unscrewing the shock absorber from lower bolt and releasing the sterring tie rod from main steering bar. I dismounted the inner boot for fix it , tit is damage due the small bracket is broken , the boot was dislocated and rubbing the shock absorber.
all of boots are original from 88 and plastic made

Default 88 S10 4WD CV front boot right vs left

Hi all
I had problem with boot , taken measurement and comparing left vs right , the right axle is shortest than left however the part number is the same for both so the right boot is more compresed than left boot . the small bracket was broken and the boot impacted with the shock absorber. the boot was not original , the same model (made in Canada) but newest than the car, boot is from 93.
the question is how to find replacement. in Rockauto there are two model , thermoplastic or rubber. which is better ?
I think this is a design problem from factory. however i dont understand why because everything looks like normal.
I am trying to find equivalent boot from european manufacturer and it is very hard to find...

thanks from Spain

Merged to keep the threads together as they are related.

The front CV axle boots are not easy to replace. It should work with any boot that fits both diameters that of the axle shaft and the CV. From my experience replacement would require to take the whole front hub apart as the new boot will have to slide over from the outside.
