Default EGR Question

I have had problems with my EGR for a while, it comes and goes. I have cleaned it numerous times but its time for a new valve. Autozone has two of them. One being a design change, which costs about $60 less. Has anyone installed an EGR with the design change? Any clearence issues? Thanks.

First pic is the design change, second pic is the original part

my moms "W" code 4.3 had this problem big time. Pieces of carbon were getting caught in it. GM came out with a gasket with a screen in it to catch the carbon. try that first. I dont not have the link with me now or the PN so sorry for that.
