Default Fuel tank question

My boyfriend and I are looking to buy a blazer for me. We've looked at a couple, including a bravada, with no luck. (The bravada was a rust bucket) I found another one on craigslist that looks promising. It's a 94 4 door with around 155k. It needs shocks and probably some tires because one has a slow leak. It has new brake lines, exhaust, a new starter, and a new gas tank because the old one was leaking. The guy that's selling it works on cars and did the work himself. My question is, are there any problems with just replacing the fuel tank and not the pump? I'm not sure how the fuel pump system works in these trucks or if it makes a difference whether or not the pump was changed. Hope this isn't a stupid question. I found a lot of posts about fuel pumps and replacing both but not many about just replacing the tank. Thanks!

I have a 94 2dr & when I changed my tank (to a plastic one), I also changed the pump & the sending unit as well. I would hate to have gotten it all back together to find out I have to change the pump a few months later. As for the sending unit, it broke coming out so... I hope this helps!

So in other words, you don't have to change the pump but it would be silly not to? I haven't asked the guy yet if he did but I'm assuming no because he is selling the car, and why would he want to spend extra money on a fuel pump that might be fine?

I didn't change out the pump when I changed my tank and everything was fine. The challenge is pulling out the old corroded tank. Once you have new tank, straps in, etc...I would imagine dropping it a second time wouldn't be as hard. A friend of mine just cut a hole in the trunk floor to access his fuel pump instead of dropping the tank. Whatever works I guess...
