how do you tune a carburetor?
I don't know much about carburetors but lately my car hasn't been running quite right and I have a feeling the carburetor needs adjusted again. A friend of mine was doing it for me for quite some time but he recently passed away. The last time I had it tuned I took it to a local shop that specializes in carburetors and I was wondering instead of paying someone else to do it is there a easy way I can tune it myself? Also, the guy I took it to last time said I should adjust it differently for summer and winter does that sound right?

That article had some decent information but I figure there has to be a lot cheaper alternatives on how to adjust it than spending over $350 on that fuel to air ratio box. It also didn't mention about where the adjustments are at and which ones control what. I have been looking for quite a while where to find this information but I know every carburetor seems to be built different so its no wonder the information I'm looking for seems so hard to find.

And every year and model it changed, depending on that year's emissions Which is why I quit working on cars until Ford came out with their EECIV PFI.

Would the shop manual go into that much detail? I know close to nothing about a carburetor but then again they did away with them before I was born. I have a Chilton book and it just talks about how you shouldn't adjust it yourself and you should take it to a dealership.

So this last post was posted almost a year ago, but for anyone like me who was looking for some useful info on older posts, let me share from my recent experience with adjusting my fuel/air mix. First I had to identify my particular carb(Edelbrock preformer seriers 600CFM)and look up specs on that carb, I had it easy being an Edelbrock, I just went to website, and all the info, was there, how to tune, replace/install and clean, but if you find out what carb you have, and that info is usally on the front of the carb, serial numbers, markings, anything. Then start your search from there, you can often find manuals posted on web, youtube videos of someone else doing the job. I have not worked on carburetors before this one, and it was actually pretty easy to do(a reletive term).
