I have a 94 S-10 W code and it has started to idle higher than normal and will cruise at 40 mph without touching the gas. The tranny won't kick down to low until the truck is almost stopped. Once the rpms drop the SES light comes on until you hit the gas again.

I replaced the cap, rotor, plugs and wires along with an oil change but I'm thinking the TPS or IAC but was looking for some advice before I hit the parts store.

So we replaced the throttle position sensor, the idle air sensor and the ECM and no change. We just had it out and the exhaust manifolds on both cylinder banks are glowing red. I don't think it should be running this hot. Could a bad cat create the excessive heat and the idle issue?

Any advice would be appreciated

 

A bad cat can cause those symptoms, yes. If you have the ability to take the temperature of the cat, let the engine idle for a while then see if the cat has a significant temperature change from the front half to the back half.

 

vacuum leak, running too lean. Also check ign timing. Make sure throttle isn't hanging open
