Default Intermittent fuel pump????

Can anyone advise me whether a fuel pump will or can work intermittently. When it won't start fuel will drip from injectors. It will actually run a little when sprayed with starting fluid. Next turn off the key it may or may not start. Is there a check valve on the pump system in the tank that can cause this or is it a bad pump. I tested the relay its I even switched it out with a new one. The fuel filter has 200 miles on it so I don't think thats it. I put this fuel sender in the tank just last september. As always thanx

dont know if this will help but do you know where the fuel pump relay is? i had a issue the other day working a 89 ford and it ended up being the relay connection where it connected to the 12v source was all corroded. so it would run sometimes for a few minutes then die. or not start for a while. i just cleaned the connections and worked fine
