Default locking front possible?

Hi, new to the forums with my recent 88 Blazer purchase and plan on going with larger tires, a little lift and posi rear. Is it possible to put a posi/limited slip chunk in the stock front differential?

While it is possible, you will likely tear up the front diff housing if you plan to really wheel your truck, using that locker.

Also will have a heck of a time steering. I ran a open axle on a stock s10 and broke cv joints with 33 inch tires.
Even on my truck now the front is open. Look to see if they even make a locker. I never heard of one

Richmond makes a LockRight for the front diffs that will drop into the stock open locker in place of the spider gears...look up the GM 7.2 IFS differential. The problem Kyle is talking about is from most blazers and S10s having an aluminum differential housing. The housing just isnt strong enough to keep everything in place with the axles locked together.

If youre interested in locking the front though, some S10s and blazers did come with a rare iron housing around the front differential. You need to look for a 4x4 blazer with a manual transmission and it needs to be in your year range (I cant remember what specifics you need to look for in an S10 though..). In '94 GM switched to a slip-in style CV, as opposed to the flanged CV attachment that bolts on. The easiest way to check is to stick a magnet onto the front housing...iron is magnetic, aluminum is not

If your looking into locking the truck front and back might as well do a SAS up front and be done with it. So much more stronger

Thanks for the replys. This is a low budget hunting truck and not interested in a SAS due to the work and cost. I just wasn't sure if it was possible to set the front axle to lock as I have never had one apart to understand how the fronts work with the internal axle engagement. I didn't even realize it was an aluminum housing.

A call to my parts supplier for differential parts revealed he had no listing for the front carrier so I will probably scrap the idea of a locking front. Don't want to worry about a housing not holding together either. I just never understood why any 4x4 would not be equipped locking differentials as standard equipment.
