Hmmmmm.......
An oil change is not going to fix that problem but perhaps some window stickers will!! Just playin on the stickers it sounds like you have something seriously out of whack in your lower end. Possibly a bad crank bearing or something. As Rich said get a stethoscope and start listening and try to pinpoint where the sound is coming from and then start digging in that area until you find the problem. A stethoscope will be cheaper than another oil change and it will certainly get you more results than the oil change (provided its used correctly).

What do you guys think of this opinion?
Quote:
Flex plate. You are going to have to drop the transmission to get to it. On the Blazers, you might have to raise the body 2 - 3 inches to get to the top two bolts. If it was a truck, it is easier but on the Blazer it is quite a pain in butt. Once you get the transmission out, it is just 8 bolts and a little prying will have it off. By the looks of things, you smashed into a rock while going 4 wheeling and bent the flex plate. You might be able to see it wobbling with the engine running. With it running, you should see no runout in the ring gear at all.
Gleaned from anonymous and unknown sources, in trying to find any/every opinion of this problem/sound.
Rod knock seems to be less suspect than trans/bellhousing/plate. Though oil pan installation is slightly suspect, as to how tightened, etc.
?
And yes, my next course of action is transmission, to investigate that area... Tech that put it on says "TC was lined up right, is simple to line up, he wonders if guy from previous engine install did not line it up and we are 180 off or something, and all bolts are tight and the flex plate looked good" -- ??? But it also FELL OFF THE RAMPS when we put engine in.. (the truck did.) Former tech says he has "never heard this noise before and does not know." Not that he was all that good...

i would say that your motor is dead. or at least has bad bearing. since you think that its the flex plate, start the truck and lay underneath it with the parking brake on. look at the flex plate. it shouldnt be moving front to back at all while spinning.
have you noticed a loss of power at all since the noise started???
Edit: i would chase that hose back to where ever it comes from to figure out what it is. someone said that it could be the front diff breather hose. i would have to agree. i believe that it should attach to the fan shroud. but i am not too sure about the square bodies as i didnt have one that long.

Is there any dents in the oil pan? After thinking about it more I remember a friend of mine dented his oil pan and had a similar sound from a rod bolt hitting the pan. We pulled the pan and pushed it back out did a visual inspection and never had another noise again. If no dents you may still have clearance issues tho so I don't think I would rule that out.

sounds similar to flex plate noise. Kind of hard to diagnose over a computer. Doesn't sound like rod knock, check all the torque converter bolts and watch it with the truck idleing to see if there is any movement

I also have this post, as to the engine that came before it.

I just don't get how you don't see or hear it......
Let me show you a video of how the engine in before this one sounded. Maybe it will yield some kind of a clue.. You are right, I am inexperienced here.
This is the engine PREVIOUS to this one. THIS engine had no oil pressure, ran like crap, etc. THIS ENGINE HAD A ROD KNOCK... This is why I think This engine DOES NOT have a rod knock.. Also, this engine still sounds ECHO-EY and rod knock DOES NOT, just a flat metal KNOCK like lubbing a piece of rebar against something, just flat and metal.. picture the rod as the rebar.. not like a resonance. (Did I get that right?)
Anyways.. To the video tape.
**^^ This is the SAME TRUCK the ONLY thing changed was the engine. THE ENGINE IN THIS VIDEO HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE METAL RECYCLER.
*please notice there is NO OIL PRESSURE. Oil pressure sender unit was replaced to verify this. Nada.
** Also, notice how the thing STALLS and doesnt really want to start back up.
I am taking a re-listen, too.
** Even on THIS engine, some felt it was not a rod knock. The oil pressure and general acting had the engine changed.
At one point in the video, it sounds like a tractor-trailer on its air brakes, or jake brake, or whatever it is. I will listen for it... *Video 1, 1:31 in (not as dramatic,) 2:57. **Video 2, 4 seconds in.
Maybe it IS something flex plate, since I am just for the first time relalizing how similar/dissimilar this new engine sounds to old. The difference is that this engine runs as if it has no issue, truly, aside from the sound.... I wish i was wrong about that, but the engine runs strong, has oil pressure, no smoke nor overheats. ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????

I am not trying to be rude here, but what are you trying to do, convince us of what you think it is, because when anyone says otherwise, You come with another video, trying to convince us.
If you are not going to believe anything we are saying, just go with what you think it is, and take it to a shop.
Because this is really going nowhere.
Also, The videos you posted, are private.

If you see a dent why don't you do something about it!! The only thing that it will cost you is some time and possibly a couple bucks for a oil pan gasket. You should be able to push the dent out by hand or possibly with a wooden block and hammer.
