Out thru the top after you take the speaker grills off.

On my '88 the entire dash pad had to come out and then you take nuts off of plastic studs. There are alot of wires and the hoses for the heater. If you go this route be careful or you'll spend a day in a salvage yard trying to replace the stuff that got broken. Good Luck!!

On a '94 only the speaker grilles come out, not the entire dash pad.

Easy-peasy.

One piece of advice I would offer you is that the stock speakers are not very deep. Because of that you have to be careful when you install after-market speakers. The problem can arise with the left dash speaker. If it's too tall it can hit the corner of the gauge cluster. I installed speakers in my '92 S-10 pickup and had to shave off the corner of the gauge cluster to get the speaker to fit.
