Default new blazer owner a few questions

silly question but what does my z vin code signify aside TBI?

im new to "modern" engines i build/race/restore classic VWs
however im fairly familiar with workin on modern cars just not the CPU end of them.
what can i do to get a little better power economy out of this engine?
are the performance chips worth it? would headers be worth it?

the guy i got it from said it was bored out but i havent removed the heads to measure the cylinder diameter to verify this or not though

it runs really well but to me seems sluggish for being bored out but then again its a 4x4 with 31s so im sure it isnt setup to haul *** but rather help me from getting stuck..

what are some common issues i should look at and adress, i already plan on re-doing the entire front end ( ball joints, tie rods etc.. )

any help and suggestions is/are appreciated thanks in advance!

Brian

Thats not really the modders engine. The TBI engines (Z) made much less power than the CPI (W) engines. Opening up the exhause makes it sound cool, but i dont think it gets any faster.

im not really trying to make it go faster... maybe a little better fuel economy would be nice but then again im used to 4 cylinders ina light weight VW beetle even with 200hp still able to get 25+mpg lol.

it has a magnaflow muffler and better exhaust on it already.

i know tbi isnt a modders dream but like i said im not looking for huge mods to the intake or fuel deliver just a few small changes that might be worthwhile.

has anyone added a chip & tuned header or is it a waste of time?

K&N Air Filter will help, also you can visit visit http://www.cfm-tech.com/sit for TBI improvements. I have the adjustable pressure regulator, Fuel Inlet adapter and Pressure gage and the injector spacer. All work very well. I would not get the TBI spacer for it does not really provide any benefit. The TBI is a very reliable and easy to work on engine. I am the original owner and have 416K on the odometer it is my daily driver. It is 2WD with stock exhaust and Michlin 215/70 X-Radials. I get 21 MPG on the highway. I also use full synthetic oil. You should also check out LMC Truck. They have a ton of parts availible. I think their shipping is kind of high though so I only order from them after exhausting other sources. I check ebay using terms like "S10 NOS" looking for New Old Stock items. I prefer OEM parts over aftermarket items most but not all the time.
