Opening Rear Liftgate

The handle on the rear liftgate lock is missing. I'm able to open the glass by either the key and turning or using the inside switch on the dash. But when I go and turn the key while in the lock cylinder to the right to open the gate it doesnt do anything and I start to bend the key. How can I get my gate open? Can I go to a junk yard and get another handle/**** to put on my lock cylinder? Getting my gate open is more important. Thanks for the help.

On my 2000 S-10 Blazer you push the botton to open the glass on the rear gate. the key is just for locking the button out. I'm not sure witch way is lock or unlock, but onced unlocked it only opens when pressed in.

Easy, hit your power locks and make sure the vehicle is unlocked, then put a screw driver in the key hole and turn to the right. You dont need a key in it to open the gate, you only need to turn it when its unlocked. Getting that little T shaped thing thats broken off out of the gate is a PITA at best. I took one from the wreckers and got all cut up getting my hands in there, so I use the screwdriver method, works wonderful. Still have the replacment part if I ever get bored enough Ill change it.

I tired it with a screwdriver, but not in the key hole, but on the outside where the T-handle was theres a notch in a ring that goes around the key hole and I tried to push that to the right, it would turn. But still no luck. Maybe I'll stick the screwdriver into the keyhole tomorrow. But I went to a pick a part today and grabbed another whole lock cylinder with the T-handle and 2 rear window shocks and a window hinge for $15. It was a PITA getting the lock out. Thats a project for another boring Saturday.
