problem with surging and idling rough '87 2.8L v6
im having a similair problem, my fuel injectors dont get soaked though.... i tried doing the paper clip thing. no dice. i went to autozone and scanned it no codes. i went to a mehcanic and he scanned it with one of those fancy snap on scanners. didnt return any codes. i did read the computer however.
one other thing with mine is when it starts sputtering at ide the check engine light will blink in time with the sputters.
the engine will also surge occasionally when idling.
on one occasion i had a complete loss of power then had a backfire but it wasnt from the back or the engine bay it came from the bottom of the truck. also the engine bay fills up with exhaust real bad. to the point you can see it comping from the vents by the windshield wipers. the exhuast also flows out of the wheel well by the passenger side front tire sometimes when i stop. i think i have a leak in my exhaust somewhere but i havnt been able to track it down. and if its the catalytic converter i have no idea becuase i dont smell a rotten egg smell... if i smell anything it smells like its running to rich. becuase the ehuast has a distinct gas oder to it.

*update* i replaced the o2 sensor it ran perfect for about 3 hours then starting idling rough and surging again but not nearly as bad as it was. tomarrow we are going to go through the vacume lines and see whats going on. we are also going to do a top engine cleaning with seafoam and replace the spark plugs. we will be putting the old 02 sensor in for the engine cleaning. hopefully everything will go well will update again after we are done.

well went and checked the vacume lines and it looks like there are some missing. and some not even hooked up... i swear if i ever find the former owner of this truck i think im gonna deck him.... also does anyone know where to get a good vacume diagram for an 87 2.8 v6 TBI?
the sea foam show was sweet. a piece of advice to anyone who hasnt done it yet and plans too. Roll up your windows... i almost suffocated myself. the truck is still surging and idleing rough after its been running for awhile. not NEARLY as bad as it was. and my fuel economy has gone up. still not what it should be but better.
man i wish i could afford a mechanic.

got one at the gm dealership... does anyone have any idea how many feet of vacume hose i will need to completly re do that vacume system. from what i can tell they dont make a kit for this so i have to buy all the hoses and joints individually...
