I have a 93 s-10 blazer with the 4.3L vortec. I had a bad ecu, fried it when removing the dumb starter kill security thingamajig. So I swapped it with a spare one from an astro van. One problem though is cold starts in the morning. I must use starting fluid sprayed into the intake. Thats the only way I can get it to start in the morning. It runs fine and as long as I don't let it sit for over 3-4 hours, it will always start no problem, well maybe once in awhile a couple cranks, but pretty reliable. Anywho, I would like to solve this problem so that I don't have to do this every day. Tried swapping over little electrical things from the injection manifold from the astro van, but no help. My friend keeps telling me its the purge valve. Where is the purge valve?? and does anyone have similar issues or insight on to solving this cold start only problem?

My blazer with the 4.3L vortec does not reach operating temp, but was running fine and at operating temp a couple of days ago. Today it hesitated quite unusually and then now have noticed that the oil pressure rises when accelerating. Notice a slight drop in power as well. Really crossing my fingers I didn't blow a head gasket, but so far I don't notice water in the oil or vice versa. Unsure of what to do now because I have the cold start issue, in which I use starting fluid sprayed in the intake, to get my blazer to start in the morning. Im just wondering if the two problems I am noticing could be linked with me using starting fluid every day? or maybe, I just have an open stuck thermostat? any help much appreciated.

If your truck starts with starting fluid, you have a fuel delivery problem.

Hawaiianshyguy,
I have merged your two threads together since they are both concerning your starting problem. It's better to keep things together so people can see the whole picture and try to help out.

its a possibility that you have put in the wrong ecu. here is a website with a list of ecu and which motor/vin number they are supposed to be paired up with.
