Default replacing heater control unit in a 93.

I have been hearing a hissing noise coming from the control panel for some time now and was thinking about pulling it out to maybe change some vaccuum lines or whatever the case may be. But i cannot seem to get the control unit out more than two inches from the dash. Has anyone who has ever had to replace this tell me how they concquered it. Thanks.

p.s. anyone know where to buy a cheaper control unit just in case i have to install a new one. I found out they are fairly pricey.

The control cable is clipped in on the left hand side - you can see the red clip if you use a flashlight. That needs to be unclipped with long needlenose pliers, then you need to disconnect the wiring harnesses. Then you can pull the unit out far enough to see the vacuum lines, etc.

It's not a fun job. The wire harnesses are sometimes easier if you take off the instrument panel shroud.

Yeah dude, what a PITA. I had to remove my digital dash, I chose to use my magnetic socket and an extension to get in there to get the bolts off and just pushed that stuff aside. Ill try to look for that little clip when I get the new dash cluster to go in.
