Cool rusted fuel line

i have a 1988 blazer v6. i need to replace fuel line. it looks like it runs inside the frame on the drivers side. is this a hard job to do yourself ?

how much of the line do you need to replace? You can sometimes get away with replacing sections with the proper grade of rubber tubing and using hose clamps. If it's a section between the fuel filter and the engine, though you might run into issues because those lines are in fact inside the frame and it's fully boxed in that area so it's gonna be tricky. if you do have to replace a section in there, make sure you're using stainless steel lines, not copper or brass. fuel rots those.

thank's for the reply. the section is between the fuel pump on the engine to just as it goes into the frame looks a little dirty. ( that is the fuel pump on the engine just below the power steering pump ?) if i replace this section i"ll use a replacement part because of the fittings on each end .

'88 V6 was TBI right? You shouldn't have a mechanical fuel pump in there. Are we talking about 2.8 or 4.3? that section goes into the frame. Is it actually leaking fuel or is it just bad-looking? if it's cosmetically bad but holds fuel and doesn't leak, i'd say drive it but keep an eye on it. it shouldn't be rusting, think they used SS lines on there.

youre right. it seems it's just dirty not rusted. so for now i leave it alone. one question though what's that round thing under the power steering pump ? one line from the frame goes into the bottom of it. and a line come's out the top that goes to the front of the tbi unit.

That's your fuel vapor canister from the description you've given. Just like onetruetom said you should have a TBI with the pump in the tank. This past fall I completely stripped the frame of my '88 and those fuel lines are a real bear to remove. Also, if it turns out that you do have to replace one in the future be really careful with the clip the holds the three where they come back out of the frame behind the dr. side front wheel. I couldn't get one even from a dealer. Seems they just don't manufacture it anymore. (if I'm wrong about this please say so) Also, I was not able to remove one line at a time because mine actually had a clip holding the three together inside the frame. Hope this helps and Good Luck!
