Default temperature gauge

Hi, I have a 94 S10 model 4x4 with the 4.3 Vortec. My Temp gauge in the dash doesn't move, it stays all the way down. My question is whether or not it's the "sending unit", if that's what it's called? The one I'm talking about is on the passenger side of the engine (there is a dipstick tube running real close to/over it). The harnness only to the unit only has one wire to it. Anyways...is there a way to test that temp sending unit or the harness that connects to it with a multimeter? If so what's the procedure? Or am I way off to begin with?

I appreciate all of the help, wisdom, and feedback provided.

That is indeed the correct sensor. I am not sure how you test it or the sensor, but I replaced mine, was like 15 bucks and restored the guage to proper working order

pull the wire off the sender and have someone sit in the cab. Ground the wire out and if the needle jumps up to max temp then the dash gauge is good and replace your sensor.
