Default trans problems

I have this 86 2.8 blazer s-10.Originally this has 100k miles on it and I have paperwork what has done to it.It has brand new crate engine which is 2.8 and has rebuilt tranny it had couple hundred miles on it,since then I put about five hundred miles on it since then. This truck has sat for about 9 yrs before I got it.I replaced coil, spark plugs twice, spark plug wires, cap, rotor, alt, fuel pump, transfer case fluids, belts and clutch fan.

The person I got this from he had stored away in the garage. He blew up the original engine in it.And he decided to fix it up.He ordered the new engine. And then had medical problems. Then it been sitting ever since. The parts that are listed were missing or were bad.Now my problem is that one I passed someone on hi-way I notice it right away til I got to stop light. When I took off it wouldn't shift from first to second.I had to hit 4500 to 5000 rpms til it shifts. Then after when it shifted it shifts fine from second to drive but it won't shift to overdrive either.

And I tried to shift it manually it acted same way.I check the fluid its like new shiny red. And another thing I noticed that when I went five mile trip and check the fluids on the tranny had it in park sat hat for twenty minutes the fluids was cool to touch.I am confused ?Any help will be appreciated thanks.

I was going to ask if you checked the fluid, but since its shifting normally, scratch that.
