got in the blaze last week,turned key...nothing but lights...tried 4 times then it finally kicked over. did it again today. I installed a used reman starter from a pull it yard this past summer...Man i dont wanna do this again...they are a b^#@h

I spent an hour on my bird starter {it's pretty easy to get at} the other day trying to fix what wasnt broke. All because I didnt stop to think. It was the freakin solenoid not worn brushes as the last time I tore apart a starter

Symptom: Turn key to start, nothing. no sounds. Lights dont dim. Whack starter. Engine starts as usual.

Cause: Solenoid plunger hung up. Other than a bad connection to Ign sw, that's all it can be.



Here's some other symptoms and causes..

Symptom: Turn key to start, hear 'thunk' but no crank. Lights dont dim. Whack starter. Engine starts as usual.

Cause: Solenoid plunger working. Bad high power connection to battery, contacts in solenoid bad, worn brushes. rap on starter and it works.. usually bad contact in sol or brushed

Symptom: Turn key to start, hear 'thunk' but no crank. Lights dim. Whack starter. Engine sometimes starts
Cause: starter armature rubbing field plates, usually worn bearings
