The point of my suggestion is to determine where your ignition failure has occurred. If you have spark at the coil output then you may have a distributor problem. If there is no spark right after the coil then don't touch the distributor and focus on the coil and ICM as suggested above. The next step in that case would be to check the signal into the coil.

Here is a site that can help you test the individual components on a 4.3L GM V6. Go to the site at:
GM 4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L Index of Articles
Then go to page 5 if you aren't aren't already there. You should see how to test the GM Ignition Control Module (1995--2005). On that same page 5, you should see How to test the Distributor mounted Ignition Module. As an added bonus : two articles on how to Clean and Test the Mass Airflow Sensor for the 4.3L for future use. This site is a great source for those who want to test it before replacing it.

Hi and thanks for all help

Problem fixed

I decided too try to repair the car today and i did :icon_
I was sure that the problem was a bad distributor cap and rotor but i was wrong since the problem was that the coil is not working

I measured power to the coil but no power out from the coil so the the problem was a defect coil

I had a spare coil which came with new taillights and some other small parts i bought a couple of years ago

The car started at once after i had changed the coil

Hey Bud, which Coil did you test and replace? There's a Pick-Up Coil and Ignition Coil Module (ICM). Is there a How-To for testing it?

My 98 Blazer also died while coming home and going over a speed bump in my neighborhood. It died a few times on the road sitting at the stop lights and the gauge cluster lights were flickering.

If your gauge cluster is flickering while it’s dying it is probably not the ignition coil. Monitor the system voltage at the cigarette lighter socket and see what’s happening during a shut down

The coil i used looked identical to the original and was included all parts that is on the coil bracket and also the coil bracket. I have no idea of the coil is original or or not but everything original and works works perfect and i have never had any flickering of the lamps in the cauge/instrument panel
