Goes dead at stops when gas is low
A few years back my wife got a bad tank of gas in her 1999 Blazer and we had to replace the fuel pump. Ever since then when the gas gets down to a quarter of a tank the engine goes dead when we come to a stop-not every time, but enough to be annoying. It usually cranks right back up without a problem, but not quickly. I've been told it's because of a weak spring in the fuel pump, but yesterday when I filled up I had gas leaking from somewhere around the gas tank. The gas did not come up through the filler. I admit to overfilling the tank because of not being able to use the last quarter of a tank. There doesn't seem to be pressure in the tank. When I take the gas cap off there is no air escaping or entering. Could this all just be because there is a loose connection at the top of the tank, like the filler hose?

Might be filler hose clamps or hose, but also check the the o-ring sealing the fuel pump to the tank. Had the same problem of gas pouring out when filling till the gas pump nozzle clicks off. Turns out the o-ring was bad (cheap aftermarket fuel pump replacement from a few years back). As the Captain says AC-Delco or Delphi is the only way to go. You have to drop the tank to replace the o-ring, so why not replace the pump to eliminate future problems.

How many gallons does it take when your gage reads 1/4. Also for some reason these things are sensitve to overfilling. The fuel leval sending unit on these gages are problematic. When you come to a stop on a downward facing place you ar running out of gas.
