i would suggest just taking it to an alignment shop and have them do it because without a machine doing it old school takes alot of time plus with an alignment rack they can get it right on target for you

I thought i was going to be a smart backyard mechanic and do my own on my mustangs tierods. I took the meas straight from the old ones @13inches&2mm in lenght, applied to the new ones, then took to shop and asked them to tell me how much i was out. beingonly1 lousy degree out was no duplicatealignment for a road worthy auto was my soon realization, as they said that was out a mile in the aligment world.

check your ball joints. jack up the truck by the frame one side at a time(so the wheel is free) and start it up, turn the wheel all the way until the ps pump grunts. if the wheel 'pops' up right before the pump grunts, the lower bj is bad. obviously you need another person to help you with the pass. side. if you don't noitice anything, with the tire about 1.5 inches off the ground, take a 2x4 or big prybar, or something similar and put the end of it about 2-3 inches under the tire and pry up on it while someone is looking at the bj. if you see any slop, its bad. if left for too long, the wheel bearing on the opposite side will go bad. trust me, i've replaced enough of them. if the lowers look good, you can usually pull on the top of the tire (with the wheel off the ground) and feel some play.

Also should note, if left bad forlenght of time, the control arm/or where ever the BJ is from, will go 'out-of-round- making one purchase a new arm/fitting to make things true again.
