Ive lost the ignition key to my 1999 4wd 4dr LS Blazer. I cannot seem to find info on removal without the key . Any help would be greatly appreciated.....thanks...

 

Are you asking how to remove the ignition key cylinder out of the steering column?

If so, pretty easy. Just need to remove air bag, steering wheel, turn signal cam and then lock cylinder. Does require two special tools: steering wheel puller and lock plate depresser. Both available at auto parts stores.

 

The ignition must be turned to the RUN position, then depress the cylinder lock tab with a small punch and slide the cylinder out. Without the key, you're screwed. Hammer, drill, punches, nasty words, etc, a real job. Easier, cheaper, and less damage to the vehicle to have a GM dealer make you a new key. Bring the entire 17 character VIN with you. Might need proof of ownership too.

 

Let's just hope this guy didn't steal the vehicle and come to this site to find out how to pop the cylinder....just saying....

 

 

Yup, like that! He said it must be in the START position to remove the cylinder, some are start, some are run. You can look through the hole on top to see the tab, push it down, and slide the cylinder out. Great video, thanks Burned!

 

I did not know that the key was required...good to know. I was going from memory when I did my '81....but I may have forgotten about needing the key.

GM parts counter, title, VIN and ID.
Not sure of the price. I know its cheap compared to the aggravation of pulling the cylinder and changing at least one door cylinder


Think you just need VIN and ID of the person that owns the car.
