Default MAF sensor

1999 4.3

Does a mass air flow sensor need any type of programming
when replaced or need time to learn anything or the computer
need to sync with new MAF sensor ?

I had a shop diagnose my blazer that had no power under
acceleration and had bad hesitation when the engine got warm.

Shop said it was a MAF sensor charged 439.00, and the next day
when I picked it up...did same thing when it warmed up.
I took it back he said drive it it needed to learn some crap after
programming in computer....!!!!! Does this crap sound logical ??
Far as I can tell this is a plug and play device so to speak....

sometimes after a electrical component like a MAF or crank sensor gets replaced the computer will sometimes have to do a relearn which could take a few miles of driving, i would usually pull the battery first. but i never really noticed that to much with mas air flow sensors. even still the mechanic should have drove the truck around to make sure it ran fine before giving it back. maybe they were busy or something and took the gamble that it would run fine.

so if you dont want to bring it back just unplug your battery for about 10 minutes and drive it around and see if that fixes it

$439 for a $130 part and 15 minutes worth of labor... Damn! And misdiagnosed to boot.

Glad you got it figured out and repaired, but I'd be pretty pissed with the first shop.
