Sounds like you may have a problem with your transmission.

As far as a popping noise when you accelerate, I would inspect the front suspension. Look for cracked bushings on the lower control arms and/or broken sway bar end links. Jack up the front end to get the tires off the ground and support the front end of the truck with jackstands under the frame. Take a 2x4 and put it under one of the front tires. Lift the wheel up. As you do so, watch the lower control arm. If you lift the wheel up some and the lower control arm does not initially move, the lower ball joint on that side is bad. You can check the upper ball joints with a pry bar by removing the wheel and trying to pry up on the upper control arm between the steering knuckle and the control arm. If you get movement here, the upper ball joints are bad.

So its a transmission problem?

so would you guys say it is normal? But once it hits redline it shifts to the next gear. but without the extra power. I cant even pass up anyone on the express way when i floor it. I was also told that my popping noise was most likely the u joints. is this true and what could happen if i do have bad u joints

No. Have the transmission checked.
