01 blazer fuel gage weared
The sending unit is made onto the fuel pump, in the tank. This is a VERY common problem. Basically the 'fix' is to replace the pump, which you will need to do eventually sometime between 100k miles and 150k miles.
X2 to Rumblur-in my experience these gauges are very inaccurate, regardless of pump/sending unit age. My current 97 had had the pump replaced prior to my owning it,and can never trust the gauge;when I fill it I "use" 1/4 tank in the first 40 miles, then the use rate slows to about what would be considered normal until it reaches about 1/3 then dives into the red zone in another 40 miles! After fueling I always find that about 5 gallons remain in the tank.I always go by mileage, after 325 miles I fill it and usually get 12-13 gal. in the tank(I live in flat terrain and get very good mileage out of my Jimmy-22 to 24,even as high as 16 in 4x4) I'd probably replace the pump soon if it was mine!
I base my advice on my own experience, that's all I really know. I bought my 2000 Blazer and the gauge was all over the place, bouncing around and inaccurate. I replaced the pump and with it the sending unit as it is part of the unit, and my gauge was perfect after that. No bounce, accurate reading and stable. I will advise though that when I bought my pump, there are 3 totally different models - 2dr, 4dr and S10 pickup... and using the wrong one could have ill effects.
New pump, the pump is not evean 4 a blazer. It was one I had for my moms 05 calavlear. Just needed to change connecter on pump. It is just funny that it is the sending unit, I think it is the computer or cluster that has gone nuts
