10W30 or 10W40?

Yet. Main, rod, and camshaft bearings do not come in direct contact with their journals. If/when a bearing contacts the journal, it will knock, and eventually spin the bearing, destroying the bearing and the journal. There is a "cushion" of oil between them, and temperature doesn't matter. 10W30 & 10W40 will not physically "fit" easily enough between the bearings and the journals to provide sufficient long term lubrication to the bearings. Your engine is dying a slow death, guaranteed.

Doubtful at best, the engine has over 260,000 miles & still running strong.
Oil viscosity is determined by the area you live in & operate the vehicle....http://www.upmpg.com/tech_articles/motoroil_viscosity/

Not sure if you are aware since you are still new here, but captain is basically a encyclopedia on these trucks and engines.
What he is saying is not an opinion, its from years and years of experience.
