1996 LT 4X4 Blazer Rear Axle Bearings
When replacing the real wheel bearings (GU6 axle) do they need to be pressed off the shafts? Are these bearings machined with inner and outer races and rollers or a stamped package bearing style? Do you need a shop with a press to remove or regular bearing remover? Is 1/16 to 1/8 in and out, not up and down, ok for an axle or are the bearings bad? Seals do not leak. Hearing a clunking noise like something is bottoming out but cannot isolate. Sounds like it is coming from right rear wheel where axle play is. Any bearing numbers per chance.

when my bearings went axle moved up/down
and side to side had to take a magnet
and fish the bearings out
any auto store has a bearing puller
you put down a deposit and its refunded
when you bring it back auto zone /advance auto

their is a special tool to pull the bearings out of the axle shaft. The rear bearing are roller bearings. the outter race, rollers and inner race are all one unit. The in and out play is due to the way the axle is set up (Clips) and is normal movement. as for the noise i would inspect the rear brakes and if nothing is found i would pull the rear diff cover and look for shavings/pieces.

Usually just use a slide-hammer to pull the axels out. After you pull the C-clips though.

the axle shold slide right out afte the c-clips are removed, i think he means the bearing getting pressed out of the axle tube?

1; drain grease/remove 3rd member cover
2; carefully remove spider axle shaft.
3; push slightly in on the axle, C clip can easily be removed.
4; Axle slides out.
5; use "L" or "J" hook and slide hammer to pull bearing assembly out of housing.
Note, inner "race" is the surface of the axle and is not replaced with the wheel bearing. If inner race is bad, offset-bearing replacement can be purchased which move the bearings far enough to run on fresh axle surface.
NOTE: if G80 option is indicated in glove box, you may wist to test your Locker operations before begining this process. If work is needed, this is a good time to do it.
