Default 1996 s-10 blazer 4x4 problem

My right front axle will not fully disengage when selecting 2wd mode. I can hear the gears just touching each other and making a loud clicking noise while moving. I have tried switching back and fourth between 4hi and 2hi but still i cannot get it to fully disengage out of 4hi. Works fine when 4hi is selected once in awhile i will hear a bang during the switch over. Any suggestions would be helpful.

You either have a problem with the cable which engages the collar inside the front diff passenger axle tube or a problem with the shift fork at the same location. If it is the cable, disconnecting it at the actuator, lubricating it with some light oil, and then working it back and forth should free it up.

Thank You swartlkk. It looks like the actuator does not move at all into 2wd mode just stays in 4wd hi i can see the actuator pull in when the engine is started and only relaxes when the engine is off. I disconnected the cable from the actuator and it stays in 2wd mode so for now that will work until i have time to sit down and troubleshoot it better at least i know it isnt in the axle. Again thank you for the info, it was helpful.
