Default 1997 blazer....put in new engine, no power and key stuck in ignition

Bought a 97 blazer and dropped a new engine in it. Now the vehicle has no power....they key is stuck in the ignition and it will not go into any gear...had to remove linkage to tow. It gets power to alternator, battery, and ABS fuse, but that's it. It has a remote start system on it, but no remotes (lol). Anyone have any ideas?

Is it a factory or aftermarket remote start system? If it's aftermarket, I'd try unhooking that and see if that does anything. Do you have power to like the injectors, assuming it's fuel injected?

i believe its aftermarket as I don't think they put them in standard in 1997. The only 3 things that show power with a tester are the 3 listed above....battery, alternator, and ABS fuse in fusebox. Nothing else shows power.

The key problem can be solved if it is in park. Have the same problem with my 97. I popped out a cap on the bottom of the steering console just below the key. (It's below the steering wheel where the wheel tilts on the plastic cover) Use a screwdriver and push up the "plunger" and my key rotates back to where it can be removed. Dunno what causes it, I replaced a key cylinder thinking it would help to no avail. I have a friend with a Pontiac Grand Prix has the same problem too. Must be inherent to GM. Hope it helps get the key out at least.

hahaha....funny thing. feel like an idiot. I inherited vehicle after someone else put new engine in it and could get no power to it. They gave up. Figured it out yesterday...lol...positive wire on alternator was hooked to negative post, thus grounding out entire car. No wonder I had power to starter and that was it....never thought to look there. Moved wire and fires right up.....nice simple fix.
