Default 1997 blazer starting prblem

I'm new here. so please be nice :P

I just got done replacing my intake gaskets on my 97 s-10 blazer. obviously with the 4.3 vortec. I have a feeling there is something wrong with the distributor. or maybe it was my mistake, but every once in a while it wont start. at least 2 out of 5 tries it wont. instead it will kind of give this clunking sound. did I maybe do something wrong after installing my distributor?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can check the distributor installation using the info found in the EDI Engine Timing thread found in the Tech Article (DIY) Index link in my signature below.

I've tried everything I can. setting cylinder #1 to TDC. then setting the Distributor. nothing seems to be working right now.

Lets get back to basics. Do you have fuel? Spark? Air(compression)?

When you checked your timing. Was it correct? Or did you have to change it? You are sure that it's timed correctly now? The distributor requires a slight rotation as it enters the shaft and if you don't account for that you will be 1 tooth off.

yes I definitely have spark, fuel and air. I'd set it at TDC and had the distributor set right. would it help if I maybe let it sit for a while with the battery disconnected? to kind of reset the computer?

When you say it "Clunks" when it wont start do you mean the starter wont turn the engine over? If the starter isnt turning the engine over but just "Clunks"' then I am afraid you might be going down the wrong road looking at the distributor.

When I installed mine and was off 1 tooth it would run so rough it was like a an old hopped up sports car with a huge cam on it. . cla-clunk, cla-clunk, but not in a good way. . haha. It would almost be dying.

Triple check you have the correct firing order. 165432.
