Question 2000 blaz new block ..crankshaft prob

hey guys i hope i am putting this in the correct thread . i need some opinions .
2000 ch blazer 4x4 4.3 v6 4dr .
ok so she was getting hot , did the flush , then r&r radiator . thermostat . well it eventually got to hot - water in oil.
so i bought a n/rebuilt 0 mile engine . had a friend of a friend do the work . along with new block i replaced . crkshft sensor camshaft sensor , plugs wires , fuel filter , fuel pump . therm again . water pump . well he calls to say its ready . i drive 5 miles and it violently coughed and sputtered then died .
towed it back . he said it was camshaft sensor again . so $ 56 more , now i know that was n't needed . this guy did not do a relearn on it . and had no idea it was needed .i guess he thought it relearned itself . he couldnt figure it out and had no scanner to perform relearn . tells me its the distributor .why i listened i dont know why . bought new distributor .he suggests his buddy with a shop and scanner tools . so i take it to him w/ new distributor (i thought to relearn and scan ) ol boy puts in new distributor and i guess scans it . he calls and is trash talking previous mechanic for being ignorant . he says come get it nightmare is over
HA i get 15 miles down hiway and she starts surging and i hear a clatter and its going down . i limp it home at 5 mph and call . he says bring it up and he will figure it out . . now should i take it back to him and let those two have it until its right or bite the bullet and take it to a dealership to have it done right . sorry im just rambling on . just hope to get a voice of reason . i wish i had more tech info like codes to help . any opinions will be appreciated thanks .

i have just discovered that there was never a crankshaft relearn done every . omg they replaced the can and crank sensor as well as timing chain cover and distributor . what is it common for mechanics to not be aware of the relearn ? or am i dealing with morons ?
as far as selling it and "counting my losses" thats just silly seeing how ive just replaced the engine . also it was my fathers ,he passed last year and i'll never sell it . although i may park near a cliff and accidentally leave it in neutral ..lol ..
so i will take it to dealer to have it scanned / relearned .

There are some dealership techs that aren't aware of the relearn, or when it needs to be done. There are also some techs that are unaware of how to adjust camshaft retard, or that it's even adjustable! Needs to be checked/adjusted when the distributor has been out. Finding a good tech is tough, even at a dealership!

I agree with Hook on this. EVen the dealer techs can be useless with such things. I can't even count the amount of Hacks I have worked next to in my years as an A tech, both at dealers and at independent shops and national chains. Part of the reason I quit the automotive biz.

Unless you were a tech at a dealer around these years (truck is now almost 14 years old), they probably dont know.
