Chevrolet Repair

Subject: 2000 Chevy Blazer Heating Problem

Question My 2000 Chevy Blazer has been giving me no problems for several years but nowthe heating system is starting to act up. The blower works fine and the heat, if there is any, is low and intermittent. It will blow warmair for a while, then blow luke warm, and then back forth for the rest of the time I spend in the car. Could this be the diverter box within the dash? I have
changed the thermostat and the fluid level looks good. The engine temp is according to the gauge running normal to low.We still have a few cool eveinings in MO so I need to get this fixed.

Also AC has been recharged to full according to the guages but it still doesn't seem to run at full cool. May be applicable to above problem.

Final note: I did put in red and green antifreeze (containers said they were compatible) - could this be part of the problem.

I love this car and in MO need both the heat and AC to work on any given day since our weather is so unpredicatble until summer when its usually just way too hot and sticky.

Thanks for any help you might give.
Phil

Welcome Phil!!

Onto your problem. Have you tried flushing the heater core? If not, I would have to recommend that you pull off both of the heater hoses at the intake manifold and flush through each one with a garden hose. See if you get any junk out. If the water flows through rather freely and clean, then your core is good. If it seems like something is restricting it, then mostlikely you have a partial clog in the core.

My heater will pump out enough heat that I can hardly hold my hand in front of the vents when on full hot.

Good luck and let us know what you find!

Phil,

I had this problem with my Blazer, I flushed the heater core and replaced the thermostat since mine was stuck open. Then this last winter I had to flush again. When you flush you might want to consider replacing your current coolant with a new batch...DexCool is only warranted for 100,000 mi or 5yrs, it is time for coolant replacement....especially when you start having clogging issues which will happen if your cooling system has air in the system.
