Default 2000 blazer 4.3L which coolant to use?

im undecided on which coolant to use the factory dex cool or regular "green" antifreeze. ive heard the dex cool builds up sludge over time and looks like rad stop leak crap and doesnt do well with air in the system but is better for the aluminum heads. the green stuff is the green stuff . lol what can you guys tell me. thanks

when i had my lower intake gasket repaired i went with the green coolant..i feel safer using the green coolant..but if you have been using dex-cool coolant and want to switch to the green just make sure you flush out all the dex-cool coolant from the system first before adding the green.. you cant mixed the two together, just my opion...

My 2000 GMC Jimmy has DEXCOOL and runs perfect. When I first bought my Jimmy I had the cooling system flushed by my local chevy dealer and they refilled the system with DEXCOOL. I am verry satisfied with DEXCOOL.

See the link below for a thorough debate regarding facts and myths along with pro's and cons of dexcool.

Original dexcool wrecked havok on the original motor and cooling system on my 2000 blazer. Drain and completely flush the cooling system, replace with the green stuff, then burp system. I hear the new dexcool is a new formula but after washing three inches of mud out of my backflow resevoir I dont think I will ever go back.

I hate DEXCOOL, had it wreck the 4.3 in my 97 Blazer i had. when i got this one (01), i flushed the system, went with standard coolant. actually runs a couple degrees cooler.

Ford's coolant is the same as DexCool. Ever hear of problems with it in their engines?

The situations cited by people with GMs is not the coolant, but failure of air sealing in the system, leaving the coolant in too long thinking it can actually last 5yr/100k, and attributing a bad intake gasket material/design to coolant problems.

Since we don't need another DexCool thread, this one is *CLOSED*.
