There is nothing wrong with DexCool as long as your system is clean, properly maintained and it has not been mixed with other antifreeze. The coolant in all of my vehicles with DexCool looks like brand new after many years and way over 100,000 miles.

Cool, thanks!

I'll see how it goes with the heater core situation and go from there. I was really glad to get it fixed for $0.00! Hopefully it won't re-occur and if it does I'll try the full flush/or a handyman flush including the radiator maybe including some chemicals!

If it has already got brown crud in the coolant it is nearly impossible to get all of the crud completly flushed out even with a professional flush. They can actually get to the point where it looks like it is full of mud. About all you can do is get it completly flushed and refill with fresh coolant and always use tha same coolant from then on. If you choose not to use DexCool I suggest you do not use any antifreeze that says mixes with any antifreeze. I have read that these antifreezes can actually be not chemicly compatable with up to 60% of the antifreezes out there.

Different antifreezes have different chemical makeups. So you can mix them but that does not mean they are chemicly compatable.

If I were not using Dexcool I would only use an antifreeze that is ehelyene glycol only. It can be either pre mixed 50/50 or the type you dilute with 1/2 water. Distilled water is best. If you are not sure what the antifreeze has in it call the number on tha jug and ask. I think the OReilly brand and Zerex original are etheleyne glycol but call to be sure. Good Luck.
