Salvy: I feel your pain! But your's doesn't sound like an "air bubble" problem. I'm definately no expert, but I would think air in the hose would make your temp go UP, not down. Hmmmm... Also, if you haven't bought the flush kit yet - you can buy just the T's (ask for "flush tee's"). You'll need a 3/4 and 5/8 - put one in each line so you can flush both ways. I put a clamp on both hoses just forward of the T's (so water would only flow thru the core) - put your garden hose on one T, and a 2' scrap hose on the other (so you can drain it over the side). Flush one-way, then switch the hoses and flush the other way. Having done it once a week - I've got it down to a science.

Greed: Ugh - I was hoping this would work for you - now I'm depressed. It's just been too darn cold for me to try it (even in the garage). My mechanic estimates $900+ to replace the core - no way am I going to try it myself.

Supposed to be in the 40's here rest of the week (upstate NY). Think warm thoughts...

 

Thanks for your concern, but I did it last night ahterI put in the t's had it running with t caps slightly dripping about 10-15 minutes, and the air had to of come out through there somewhere. I got steady 195* heat constantly after driving too ! Put it to bed !!!

 

There's no way I'll pay that kind of money. I'll be doing the work myself if need be. If I have to for the time being I'll let my wife drive my truck and I'll drive that.

Since it's below freezing here, Can I just blow the heater core out with my air compressor or does it have to be done with water.

 

Greed: Ehhhh, I'd be very hesitant to use an air compressor. I've heard several cautions about damaging the core with too much pressure. I think under normal operating conditions the system only works at about 15-16 psi (or less) - I'm sure your compressor will exceed that.
