I understand that when removing the heater core that the dash will need to be mostly removed. Anyone experienced in doing this...can you give me some heads up information? Thks

Sometimes you have to go back a few pages with the search feature but there is a huge amount of info on heater cores on this site. It's a lengthy job, but its really easy to do. Label all your wires and keep track (notepad or something) of everything that is disconnected and where. If you forget to reconnect a wire on the rebuild, you'll have major problems.

Like Ravenhurst said, not really a huge job, just some time involved. Just finished mine in a 1996. If you follow the directions ( and save all the bolts) its actually not bad at all. Hardest part for me as I have big arms, was once the dash was disconnected, getting behind it to disconnect the 4 or so wiring harness's behind the glove box area.

Honest, take your time, do not drink beer and it will all work out. If its leaking and you are not ready to do it, just bypass it inside the engine compartment by looping the two heater hose lines together for now. Good luck

 

Im getting ready to change mine this weekend. Use the search feature on tool bar for help. Just search heater core, also I have a chilton repair book and it had some useful in it. You may want to pick one up if you don't already have one. Good luck.

 

its not as bad as it seems a little time consuming only p.i.t.a. i ran into was removing the black box that surrounds the core. manual that i had said remove bolts holding it to firewall from inside the passenger compartment but i had 3 or 4 that were run through from the engine side and were down behind the engine.

 

I have a 96 4dr 4WD. In regards to that cover for the heater core I guess I lucked out, there were all on the insdie and easy to get at.
