2001 Blazer rear hatch problem

Apparently the black plastic thing that moves to the left, is what's broken. The actual piece to open hatch is higher. I will update when I get time to pry that panel back, after I remove the inner handle.

Finally found my hole saw kit. All done!
I drilled a 1" hole, 2 3/8" up from the narrow rectangular hole, hidden behind the top center of the carpet, where it meets the plastic (thanks to a Youtube vid). I decided to make the hole 1" to the right of center (while laying inside the truck and facing the rear hatch of course). Perfect. Although, doesn't have to be precise. Only drill through the plastic, though (you may hit metal, if you are off a bit). Stick in your finger, down and to the left......and push linkage to the left. Window should pop, then push up on window and it should open.
Now.........if you get stuck and the window does not pop, maybe the window is already slightly raised; meaning the linkage is only partially released. This happened to me. I was stuck trying to open the effing thing for at least half an hour with my finger.....linkage would move, I pushed up on window, but it would not open. Just slightly, like about 1/4". FINALLY found the solution. I went outside, pushed the window ALL the way down, to completely lock it. Then crawled back inside, stuck my finger in......hardly any pressure at all and it OPENED. So point being.......make sure the window is firmly down before doing this.
So THEN I was able to lower the gate and commence with the replacing of that plastic hook thing (Dorman rear latch repair kit #42426). Comes with a spare; about $10 CAN.

Yes, saw the same YouTube video.However, on my Blazer it missed the mark. It was and inch higher and 1/2 inch to the left. I repaired it a few months ago.

And........while i had everything apart; I poured about a cup of mineral oil into bottom of hatch. No rust! Mua ha haaa
