Question 2001 Fuel Pump/ gauge not working.

Hola members. I'm getting ready to perform a fuel pump replacement on my 01" 4.3L. I have a fuel leak somewhere on top of the tank where the send and return fuel lines are. I can hear the pump kick on when turning the key, but figured if I was gonna drop the tank, that I'd go ahead and replace the pump too. Any advice before I start this (first timer here)?

Also, I have a floater fuel gauge. Sometimes it goes up to the half tank mark, next thing I know it drops to "E" and the low fuel light comes on. Any ideas what this may be? Thanks

Fuel gauge issue is most likely the sending unit, it comes with the new pump module. AC Delco or Delphi only for the pump module. Aftermarket stuff is JUNK! Total waste of time and money.
