Default 3rd (4th!?!) Brake Light.

Hey guys, I have an old 3rd brake light bar from before they were mandatory that was not used. Well tomorrow I think I'm going to put where the LED brake light bars go above the rear bumper. It's 34" long by 1/2" tall.

I just need to know the wiring of it its got 4 wires. Black, Blue, Red and Yellow. I will probably tie into the brake wiring. So whats the easiest way to do this?

My wild $%^ GUESS is: red to 12v+, black to ground, yellow to left brake lamp, blue to right. I'm guessing left/right based on trailer wiring - yellow is left side (green would be right normally). If you have a 4 wire trailer connector on it you could try mocking it up before you cut into wires.

Is it possible that the red may go to the parking lights?

Those were my thoughts too! I think it would be 12v tho, because it would be illuminated at all times if it was tied into the parking lamps, no? Also, How would I mock it up to the trailer harness? Is there constant power there?

With no information on the controller..... I don't know what functions it replicates. I wasn't sure if it did running lamps. I went on the assumption it did brakes & directionals with an external power source so as not to place extra loading on the wiring/fuses. There is no constant power on the trailer connector unless you have the 7 pin heavy option. Try hooking running lamps to the red, if they light up without any other connection (you need the black hooked up of course) then you're in bussiness.
