Default 4.3 engine code w rebuild questions

I purchased a nice 2000 blazer for a great price, but water has apperently been leaking into oil through intake for quite some time. Engine knocks and is ready for a revamping. I'm going to rebuild the engine, so is there anything i need to know thats out of the ordinary with these mills. Any perf mods I should seriously consider. Why do rebuild kits not seem to come with cam and lifters? Any information would be useful.
Thank you

Most rebuild kits do not come with cam & lifters due to the variations in these items.

If you can swing it, I would do a port & polish on the heads, port match the intake, and drop a new cam in.

It really depends on the duration and lobe separation as to whether it will mess with the your PCM. You can get the PCM tuned to account for the changes in the cam though. I would give a call to both Comp Cams' & Crane Cams' tech lines. I have always had good conversations with their tech people. Spell out what it is you are looking to do and they will tell you what your options are for their products.
