Default 4 Speed Auto Transmission Blows Out Fluid

2001, V6 I romped on it getting on the freeway and a couple miles down the road - I noticed blowing/pumping oil out. What did I do now? What model tranny do I have? I put 3 quart of universal fluid in to limp me 6 miles home. What type fluid do I replace with? How many quarts if I do a filter change? And again - What did I do?? Thanks to who reply.

Auto Transmission in these trucks are a 4L60E. I like to use Dex/Merc fluid, but GM is now using a synthetic Dexron VI fluid in everything but is a bit expensive.
Can you see where the fluid is coming from?

I'm letting the oil drip off before I crawl under.

I just crawled out from under & noticed the lower cooling line has a pieced of rubber hose spliced in & blew a hole. Is this factory? Will a new piece of hose work? Is there enough pressure when I romped on it to pop a hole?

I have rubber hoses on the trans cooler I installed couple of years ago, so you can probably replace with some trans hose, not vacuum or low pressure fuel line hose.

Also I do not remember seeing any portion of the trans lines to the radiator being rubber, all metal. Sounds like a repair was done in the past by previous owner. I do not think the "romp" caused the hole, unless the hose used was vacuum line.

Just get hose that is rated for transmission fluid and power steering fluid to replace that section. The pressure you see should not be more than 100 psi max in the cooler lines.
