Default 4WD Auto

I am having problems shifting from 2wd to 4wd auto and 4wd low. I have an automatic transfer case but when I push the 4wd auto or 4wd lowbutton, I can here some clickingsomewhere but thenall it does is blink for 30 secondsand goes back to 2wd.I can however shift to 4wd high but that is all. I followed the steps in the manual. Any suggestions?

Not to take away from the topic of the post, but what is the difference between 4wd HI and 4wd low? I can shift into 4wd high. But whenever I shift into 4wd low and try and drive the car rides horribly and has a terrible turning radius. I've just always avoided using it.

4wd low is for very slippery conditions, and thus should only be used when an incredible amount of wheel slip can be induced very easily in the corners, ie loose sand and snow. 4wd high is for gravel and other somewhat firmer conditions, but still where wheel slip may be induced. If you use your 4wd when the wheels cant slip, you'll bind your axles up and destroy your truck/t-case/everything thats costly to repair.

as for the issues with your switch, it probably has to do with the vaccum system. try using the search feature at the top of the page for all your 4wd switching problems. try a few searches, i'm sure you'll get all the answers as there are quite a few threads on this with varying sets of symptoms

4wd hi is also for high speeds, where 4wd low is for slow speeds. using 4 low at high speed will also destroy the components

I assume your 95 has the same pushbutton system as my 2000. I just replaced the Transfer Case Control Module to correct the exact same symptoms. Easy to swap, but $360 for the part. Right (passenger) side kick panel, three bolts, one plug. Check for corrosion (white residue) either on either end of the connection. Try cleaning the connections, first. Not sure if there is a good way to test the unit.....
