I have a 2002 4dr. I noticed my 4 wheel wasn't working while in the mud. So I put it up on my friends lift, started it up and had someone sit in it. Had it in 4 wheel high and low. I have power coming out of the transfer case (drive shaft is spinning tried to stop it by hand, and its seems fine) but after going into the front dif I get nothing from the axles. Stuck my finger in the fill hole and the oil smells slightly burnt. I don't know if this is enough info to get any help but any would be appreciated. Thanx

could be the vaccum acutator. its under the battery tray. might not be getting vaccum, might have a broke diaphramn and can pull the cable, or maybe the cable or linkage is stuck. heres some helpfull info to click on-> https://blazerforum.com/forum/tech-a...ill-help-7180/

Ok so I believe the vacuum actuated is bad... But I pulled down on the cable and used a pair of vice grips (as read in another post) to keep the cable engaged, put the battery back in and nothing. Is there a certain way or order of doing this to get it to work with the vice grips. Did I need to have the car in 4 wheel before I pull the cable or can it be pulled at any time.

cable can be pulled at any time, might have someone rotate the front drive shaft while your pulling on the cable (with the transfer case in 2wd) maybe the splines are hitting each other and not sliding together with things stationary, with some movement of either the driveshaft or the r.f. wheel (with the r.f. jacked up) the axle should couple together.
