Go to the BF homepage and in the google box type in 4x4 actuator. You will find every thing you need to know. Not sure if they had the four button in 96 but it makes a difference if its three or four.

spittybays: I have a 98 S10 Blazer 4WD with 3 push button system (2hi, 4hi, 4lo). yesterday when I tried to us the 4x4 because of the amount of snow we received here in MI. The light on the 4hi button and 4 low button came on but the truck did not act like the 4x4 was actually working. Would this be the same issue? It was also 0 degrees. Would the extreme cold cause a problem?

I changed the vacuum actuator on top of the transfer case and fixed mine it has three spouts and threads in with a spring loaded steel ball and it will usually stick and won't lock the front end in. 7/8 wrench fits it.you can get the pay at O'riellys for like 17 bucks it will be in the help section andIf you can't find it they can go in the computer and search vaccum actuator switch.
