Default 4x4 mess! please help!

I have a 98 blazer LT 160,000 miles, has push button 4x4. When I bought it about 3 weeks ago the 4hi worked then it just stopped and now when u press it both 4hi and 4low lights blink for 3 seconds then goes back to 2hi. 4low works great. Okay now I tried to pull my boat out and the hubs or ? Is not engaging. It was working fine but now front wheels won't move in 4x4, tranny is still gearing down to low and u can hear the t-case engage, seems like no auto hubs?..can anyone help this has thrown me for a loop and I don't even know where to begin.

Okay two problems, I'll address them in the order they were mentioned.

Usually when your buttons flash and won't go into a certain setting, its the encoder motor on the transfer case that turns to select which gearing you pushed (4HI/LO), that's where I would start for that.

As for your hubs not engaging, a common problem is the rubber around the vacuum actuator getting torn or just cracking from age, causing it to not be able to hold a vacuum and thus can't pull the cable to engage the hubs. Inspect the actuator for any damage to the rubber, and also look at it before and after trying to engage 4wd, you should be able to see if it has pulled the cable at all.

Thanks I looked at vacuum actuator the rubber seems fine and when engaged the cable gets pulled when it sucks in but it doesn't move but maybe 1/4 of an inch. Is this right? And the cable looks adjustable?
